While I was in Paris, I had the BIGGEST, LONGEST and TASTIEST croque madame EVER! It was practically the length of my forearm smothered in cheese and topped with a perfectly fried egg. Recommended by my friend Julien Pham of Fricote Magazine, Le Progrès is an Parisian brasserie located on a busy corner in the upper Marais. This spot gives off that charming Parisian vibe with an outdoor terrace that wraps around the the restaurant. The interior is just as charismatic as the exterior with a huge old fashioned bar that stretches across the restaurant, high ceilings and cozy booths.
The menu consists of casual French classics including salads, sandwiches, omelettes, croques, desserts and more. The list of different croques was what caught our attention all sandwiched between bread from Poilâne bakery, a famous bakery in Paris known for having some of the best bread in the world. Not knowing how large these croques would be, we made a rookie mistake of ordering one of these massive sandwiches per person! Word of advice, order one to share between two people.
Croque Madame – grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a fried egg on top (€8.30 or $11.25 USD).
Croque Volaille – grilled turkey breast, blue cheese and emmental sandwich (€8.80 or $12.00 USD).
